CREATIVE WRITERS’ DISCUSSION GROUP

Osgodby Community Centre – the meeting place of Creative Writers’ Discussion Group, continues to lend itself well to their needs, especially since the delightful refurbishment.

Jonathon Wanless the Headmaster of Seamer & Irton CP School has written to Shirley and the group to inform them of the success of a pupil they mentored. Harvey Butterfield, who now attends Scarborough College has won 1st prize throughout Scarborough Schools for his poem.

Harvey and his parents asked Mr Wanless to convey that he credits his success to inspiration given to him by the Creative Writer’s Group members Shirley Durrant, Maeve Crawford and Susan Thompson who mentor the Seamer and Irton CP School pupils in creative writing.

The book ‘Telling Tales out of School’ produced by Shirley last summer; on behalf of the pupils; has also been a great success. The Creative Writers’ Discussion Group urge other groups to take advantage of the facilities offered at Osgodby Community Centre.

Rachel J. Jenkinson, long-term member of the Creative Writers’ Discussion Group and the umpteenth generation of a well know Scarborough fishing family, saw the publication of her book ‘It Happened to Me’ on Friday 3rd April ‘ 09. A launch party took place on that day in The Newcastle Packet Pub on the foreshore at 1.30pm and it was a big success.
